Indra Moroder

We are pleased to welcome Indra Moroder as the new artist-in-residence at Broadway Studios and Residencies, Wimbledon. Relocating temporarily from our Lambeth studios to 188 The Broadway SW19 1RY, Indra has taken over a space dedicated to residencies, gallery collaborations and evolving installations. Here, the studio is both a site of production and display while windows act as a shifting canvas of creative process, exposed to the public eye.

Indra’s residency delves into the intersections of motor control, cognition, and painting, with a focus on ambidexterity. Through a practice that challenges the dominance of a single hand, she examines the physical and neurological implications of working with both hands simultaneously. Training herself, initially as a right-handed painter, to create with her left hand, she has confronted the tension between skill and unlearning, discomfort and fluency. Over time, the act of handedness becomes secondary, allowing intuition to take over. In an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and machine-assisted labour, Indra’s work considers what it means to create with multiple hands and expanded cognitive processes.

The residency will unfold as an ongoing experiment in ambidextrous painting, culminating in an exhibition that invites public participation. In the coming month, she envisions interactive works that encourage visitors to engage with their "unknown hand"—whether through a shared canvas, a participatory installation, or intimate workshops exploring movement, coordination and perception.

A series of events and workshops will further open the space to the local community, inviting audiences to explore the act of painting beyond habit — through experimentation, mindfulness and play.

Indra Moroder is an artist based in London. She obtained an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins. Her practice evolves around an interest in imaginary spaces, narrative, sociology, and cosmology. Indra’s work has been exhibited at the Lethaby Gallery, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Kunsthalle Tirol in Austria, Offprint Book Fair at Tate Modern, SKB Arts in Bolzano (Italy) and The Koppel Project among others. Currently her video is on view at Old Street Gallery in the exhibition ‘Devouring and Desire’ curated by Girl Pane until February 19th.
