The art world is changing, and our students are helping to redefine it. Romantic notions of the artist as lonely genius locked up in his garret waiting to be discovered need to be challenged. New sites of production and encounter for art are emerging and at OPENing we wish to explore this. The space will be curated, organised, and run by students from BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins who will be challenging traditional notions of the exhibition. OPENing conceives of the exhibition as a process, in flux and shifting where the status of what is shown is uncertain. Programming of the space runs on a two-week cycle with exhibitions, workshops and events open to the general public on Thursdays between 16:00 > 19:00 and on Fridays 13:00 > 17:00.

The project was devised by Staff on BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in order to challenge the dominance of the white cube. What new forms of exhibition might emerge if the conventions of a set of curatorial approaches are not simply taken for granted. On BA Fine Art, we believe artists create the cultural resources of our shared future. We recognise the breadth and diversity of social, political, cultural, economic, and technological contexts of contemporary art.
