Open Call /// Artist Residency Programme

***Applications Have Now Closed and are being reviewed.***

We are excited to announce the opening of applications for the OPEN CELLS Artist Residency Programme at The Koppel Project Station. If you're an emerging or mid-career artist with a passion for community involvement and an interdisciplinary approach to your practice, then OPEN CELLS might be the right opportunity for you!

OPEN CELLS is an artist residency programme at The Koppel Project Station that its second edition will focus on community involvement and engagement. Our goal is to provide artists with a dynamic, inclusive, and interactive experience that helps them develop their practice while contributing to the local community. We encourage applications from emerging artists who have an interdisciplinary approach, understand the multidimensionality of space, and use unconventional mediums, including performance and participatory art. The residency is located on the ground floor holding cells of an old police station in Hampstead – Camden Borrow, NW3 that has been repurposed as a creative hub by The Koppel Project since spring 2022. The building's history and legacy have previously inspired artists to explore themes of confinement, freedom, human rights issues, mental health, power and authority. In previous editions, by engaging with the building's past, artists developed a deeper understanding of how art can be used to foster positive change.

We believe that art can take many forms and that the multidimensionality of space can be used to create a welcoming environment open to learning and participation. During the residency, artists are encouraged to organise a range of community-based activities that involve young people aged 18-25 from the local community, such as through public events and a final exhibition.

The residency lasts for two months – September and October 2023, and the timeline is as follows:
