Veridical explores memory, perception and materiality through photography, painting, sculpture and tapestry. The works blur reality and recollection, questioning what is remembered and what is real.
Exhibiting artists: Emma Burrow, Xiaoyi Lin, Taimahshoez, Elizabeth Chester, Usoa García Sagüés, Libby Wheatcroft, and Sandy Ko.
An exploration of memory, migration and the visceral nature of experience, Veridical brings together contemporary works that challenge perception and materiality. Through photography—including dreamlike double exposures shaped by chance and the subconscious, and raw, first-person snapshots of the San Fermín festival—alongside sculptural works woven from metal, fabric, and found materials, the exhibition reveals how artists capture fleeting moments and enduring truths.
Photography serves as both witness and interpreter, capturing fleeting moments through raw documentation and layered compositions. From immersive first-person perspectives to ethereal double exposures, the works in Veridical blur the line between memory and reality, distilling intensity, movement and atmosphere into each frame.
Themes of nurture and displacement resonate throughout, from knitted copper wire cradling fabric forms to electroformed sculptures of stitched sports jerseys filled with rice—an homage to immigrant mothers and the weight of heritage. Woven tapestries add another layer of storytelling, embedding memory into texture and thread.
Veridical interrogates how artists construct reality, whether through the fragmented recall of film, the layered tactility of mixed media, or the charged tension between presence and absence.
The works ask us to consider: What is real? What is remembered? And what is left behind?
