The first guest artist to participate in the residency at our Studios and Residencies programme at KOPPEL Broadway in Wimbledon (188 The Broadway SW19 1RY) is our long time studio artist Lise Bouissière from our Lambeth Studios (previously Hive, Bank and Station).
The Koppel Project has invited Lise to develop a body of work titled “Undergrowth” which showcases work all connected through the artist’s incredible use of panting layer spontaneously smeared onto different type of loose woven fabric without frame. The works on display are an invitation to dive into an installation of levitating paintings. To walk through to look beyond oneself, onto the peripheries and off centre, to emerge into a deep forest on floating artworks. Nature is a constant source of inspiration for Lise Bouissière offering a manicured and landscaped environment but left to its own devices growing into a wilderness of untamed and colourful wildlife. Consequently, harbouring a world, unknown, unseen and allowing for mystery and magic.
The residency will be followed by numerous chapters, with diverse body of work development. The exhibition on display is a work in progress and we will be running events and hosting a final opening.
Broadway Studios and Residencies is an art space dedicated to artist residencies, gallery collaborations and display installations. This space allows artists to work in full view of the public, transforming the windows into a canvas of ongoing artistic production. Visitors and the general public can witness the creative process as it unfolds, blurring the lines between artist and audience and emphasising the idea that art is a continuous journey rather than a final product.
