"Making Textiles" workshops, alongside the exhibition "Textile is Intelligent," are designed to bring local and ethnic minority communities into art spaces. These workshops serve as prompts for conversation and rhetoric that the artists aim to foster, especially in the current climate of polarity and strife. As a collaborative effort, the artists understand the importance of engaging with local communities through arts and crafts. They genuinely believe that their model of showcasing textiles as a proxy for heritage, along with their goal of decolonising the narrative, is unique and can make a difference. The artists intend to use the workshops as spaces for learning, as well as opportunities to inspire and regenerate.

In relation to the workshops accompanying the exhibition at The Koppel Project Station, the workshops are open to anyone above 18 years of age. Local artists and non-artists are encouraged to participate.

Emmanuel will demonstrate his process of exploring Kente weaving materials and acrylic paints, while Divya will work with punch needle embroidery on fabric. These workshops will also serve as platforms where the artists will share a bit about their journeys and practices, providing context to the sessions. The sessions will be interactive, enabling participants to weave their own ideas into the textile piece they create as a takeaway.

Workshop with artist Divya Sharma will be held on Saturday 9th December 2pm-4pm. REGISTER HERE.

Workshop with artist Emmanuel Boateng will be held on Wednesday 13th December 2pm-4pm. REGISTER HERE.
