Artist Selwyn Midgen first Solo Exhibition Le Voyage: An evocative journey through places features a vibrant and captivating collection of landscapes and still-life paintings and drawings inspired by his travels to France, Italy, UK, and more recently India. The paintings and drawings in Le Voyage Exhibition originate from these locations, including Parliament Hill, on the Highgate side of Hampstead Heath, the South Bank, a vacation in Luberon, France, 2023 and a recent trip to Rajasthan, India.
In Le Voyage, Selwyn Midgen also takes us on his artistic journey of landscape painting. Fascinated by the shapes created through the displacement of objects in the Landscape, his works are figurative, drawing inspiration from Cézanne’s iconic style, but with varying degrees of abstraction, and with a distinct use of shapes, emotions, and seasonal colours.
“You turn a corner. There is a surprise awaiting you. It is the shape, shadows, or the lack thereof which stirs something inside. This triggers your desire to capture the moment and it is your interpretation of that moment that makes the art. It is for you but, also to enable you to convey your emotion to others.”
Selwyn Midgen is a British artist brought up in Sussex, surrounded by scenic vistas of the Sea and the South Downs. Following a successful career as a Surveyor, at the age of 35, he traded the art of property consultancy for the art of painting, pursuing his true passion, Landscape Art. He completed a Diploma in Art at Sir John Cass in 1980 followed by further studies at the British Institute in Florence and short courses at the Slade School of Art and other notable Art Colleges in London, before setting up his studio in 2008 at the Chocolate Factory, in Wood Green, North London.
Selwyn has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions in London and Spain, and his paintings are in private collections in France, Spain, Singapore, and the UK. Koppel Collective proudly presents his first Solo Exhibition Le Voyage, comprising a wonderful collection of awe-inspiring artworks to indulge the senses. Join us for the Private View on Thu 27 June from 6-8.30 pm.
