Feelings of loss and vertigo within global economy shape this series of works, drawn from five years of collaborative and individual art and research by Rita Haddoub and Paweł Dziadur. The work reflects on the interfaced city amidst developmental destruction, putting into conversation infrastructural shifts and industrial accelerations.
Placed in dialogue with post-Soviet policies and the arms/technological race on one hand, and Lebanon’s systemic impasses amidst endemic wars and urbacides on the other, the series interrogates the raison d’être of modernity. Concrete becomes the relic of capital, reorganising landscapes, subjectivities, and temporalities, while raising the question of whose modernity is being constructed, and to what end?
Concrete & the Immaterial invites viewers into the proximity of these contradictions; where the hard surface of cement becomes shelter, and where rubble offers both weight and intimacy.
