Fundraising project for Debra

Interview with Amir Shaikh

Why are you raising money for Debra in particular?
I felt that it was important to support a local charity near the Downshire Golf Club and was impressed by the scope of Debra’s work. The devastating effect of EB on children and their families had a profound impact on me, and I am keen to support Debra in their commitment to improving the lives of those affected by the disease.

What will you be doing to raise the money?
Former Captain Matt Thomas and I have decided to embark on a personal challenge of playing 7 rounds of golf on foot in one day. This will be taking place on Wednesday 20th June 2018, the second longest day of the year. For us, this could be the longest day of the year!

What is the set target?
I always set high targets for myself and felt that £10,000 would be achievable for this incredibly worthwhile cause.

What is your golfing background?
Around 23 years I was looking to replace my active squash lifestyle with another sport and I was introduced to golf by a friend in Dubai. Since then this has not only been a passion, but also an addiction! I seem to play in all weather conditions just for the love of the game.

Actually, Amir has an impressive background and a World Record in squash endurance. Check out this article!

What is your professional background?
I began my career in the security industry in 1985 and worked for a number of major retailers and department stores. I then went on to carry out close protection work in the Middle East and Far East. On returning to the UK, I qualified as a Security Trainer and taught Security and Close Protection courses which has led me to my current position as Group Head of Security, Property and Facilities.

When and where will the event take place?
The event will take place on Wednesday 20th June 2018 at the Downshire Golf Club from 4.30am until 9.30pm (according to sunrise forecast).
Address: Easthampstead Park, Wokingham, Berkshire RG40 3DH.

Can people buy tickets to attend watch and support?
Admission is free, so please come and show your support for us as we undertake our challenge!

Is there a justgiving page? If yes what is the link?
The link to the JustGiving page can be found here:  https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/amir-shaikh-golf

Has anyone attempted this challenge before, how difficult will it be, and do you have a time in your head that you would like to complete all of the courses?
This exact feat hasn’t previously been attempted, but Matt Thomas did complete 6 rounds of golf a few years ago at the Downshire Golf Club. Our challenge is both physically and mentally draining as it demands hours of concentration and stamina. With regard to an estimated time of completion, Matt and I will have 17 hours of daylight available to us which will hopefully be enough.

Thank you Amir !
