You are invited to the first Open Studios at The Koppel Project Hive on 7th, 8th and 9th April. This is an exciting opportunity to experience the work of the fifty artists we have working here, to talk with them and to discover where their inspiration comes from. In the studios’ Internal Project Space will be an exhibition featuring some of the artists’ works.
There will be an opening reception on Friday, 7th April from 17.00 – 20.00 with drinks as well as other events throughout the weekend (schedule below).
SATURDAY 8 APRIL
12.00 – Artist Talk with Nadine Shaban
‘A place to hide, not talk to anyone, to get what’s inside out, without anyone looking. For a long time this space had walls and a door, now it’s a big open space with other people. It’s taken some getting used to, but it’s been a positive move’. Nadine will discuss the importance of the studio space within her practice, how being part of The Koppel Project Hive and the 16 Artists 16 Days exhibition influenced her work, and how she feels about letting others into her creative process.
15.00 – 17.00 – Zine Making with Kirsty McEwan
WHAT ARE ZINES?
Cheaply made collaged magazines, zines are easy to make and easy to disseminate with a history in sharing the messages of punk rock, riot girl, and other folks with unheard voices.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Make your own DIY publication to take home. Kirsty will supply old magazines, paper and craft materials. You bring found images, words, things that catch your eye. Cut them up, play, and make your own zines. Open to all ages.
SUNDAY 9 APRIL
11.00 – Artist Talk with Maria Farrar
Maria will discuss calligraphy, anime, kanji, emoji and how she uses them in line, form, and colour. She will talk about her experience of arriving in the UK for the first time after growing up in Japan and how that lead to her interest in painting food and European elements like balcony railings and shutter windows. Lastly, she will discuss her recent residency in Rome and how that has affects her current work.
15.00 – Artist Talk with Ali Eisa of Lloyd Corporation
Lloyd Corporation is a collaborative artist duo between Ali Eisa and Sebastian Lloyd Rees.
